TAMPA (Fla.) — The Giants wanted Monday to prove something against Tom Brady and his Buccaneers. They did just that.
The Giants proved they are still not ready to be prime time and were humbled in their own building by the Super Bowl champions.
The Bucs proved they aren’t dead yet. The Giants demonstrated that they are far from being the team they desire to be, and must be to compete at this level.
Last month, the Giants were exposed by the Cowboys (and Rams) in blowouts.
The Buccaneers did even more of the same whether they were picking apart defenses, blocking the offense, or turning back time on Daniel Jones. Jones struggled with his decision making in the second half, which led to two ugly interceptions. This made a poor performance worse in Monday’s 30-10 loss.
In the second quarter, the game was tied at 10. Tampa Bay scored 20 unanswered.
Saquon Barkley’s return had very little impact on the offense. The offense managed to score one touchdown. It was on a gadget play when Jones found Andrew Thomas with a tackle-eligible pass.
The Giants’ pass rush against Brady wasn’t very loud, and Will Hernandez, right guard, struggled greatly inside the offensive line.
The Giants (3-7), will now need to rest for a week before facing a hot Eagles team at MetLife Stadium. Philadelphia has taken advantage of its opportunities in recent weeks and is now in contention for a wildcard spot in the NFL.
It begs the question, “What are the Giants?” If the teams in the hunt, including the Eagles, Washington, Carolina, and New Orleans are deemed mediocre, There are seven games left before the offseason, which promises more criticism and change for those who lose.
WEEK 11 WINNERS AND LOSERS: The Chiefs are back, but with some caveats. Falling bills.
Bucs 24, Giants 10.
The promising offensive drive of the Giants to start the second half was halted on fourth-and-1 from Bucs’ 25. The Giants took Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Collin Johnson off the field. They also brought on backup tight end Chris Myarick and Collin Johnson. Bucs All-Pro linebacker Devin White destroyed the play.
White utilized his speed to reach Daniel Jones as he rolled to his right. Johnson was able to stop Jones’ quick throw, and the play was over.
The Bucs did not waste any time adding to their lead. They sliced up the defense and cashed in when Tom Brady hit Mike Evans with his second touchdown pass.
It seemed like a missed opportunity to come away with zero points after the first quarter. When Tampa Bay scored the winning goal, it was even more obvious.
Halftime: Bucs 17, Giants 10.
Two big defensive stops have been made by the Giants, one in the second quarter to stop Tampa Bay scoring. The Bucs are strong defensively and have prevented the Giants’ offensive momentum from gaining.
Giants wide receiver John Ross leads the team in rushing yards (16), while Saquon Barkley is limited to 10 yards on three runs. Tampa Bay currently has 273 yards total and 19 first downs. Brady completed 20-of-29 passes, for 198 yards. One interception was also made.
Daniel Jones completed 11 of 16 passes for 81 yards. A touchdown was also scored to Andrew Thomas, left tackle. Thomas reported in as an eligible recipient on the play. A trick play by KadariusToney saw the Giants close to cashing in. He threw it downfield almost 50 yards to Darius Slayton. Slayton became involved with a Tampa Bay player. Officials initially threw a flag of pass interference, but they quickly picked it up and waived the penalty.
Andrew Thomas’ TD ties everything up
A big man wins!
Adoree Jackson intercepted a Tom Brady pass, which bounced off Mike Evans. This allowed them to enter the 10. Big Blue did some tricks and Andrew Thomas was tackle eligible. This is technically a tight end on their left side. Daniel Jones threw a pass to Thomas and he made a leaping grab to score.
Thomas was a rookie and converted a 2-pointer last season.
Bucs 7, Giants 0.
That was quick and surgical. To open the game, Tom Brady used the Giants’ defense to create a script and scored a touchdown to Chris Godwin.
The Giants must adjust to the way Brady attacked them with lots of misdirection.
Big Blue against Brady history
Andrew Thomas and Saquon Barkley make their respective return after being out of action for the past month. The Giants are trying to beat the Buccaneers Monday night at Raymond James Stadium.
Barkley has not been in action since suffering a left ankle injury against the Cowboys in Week 5. Thomas was also injured during the week following his rollup against the Rams.
