“I just thought: ‘What the hell? Where did that come from now?'” So Damon Hill describes a special encounter with Williams co-founder Patrick Head. This was the middle of the 1990s, yet the Technical Director of the Team, which led Hill to the accidental death of Ayrton Senna as number One driver. But Hill was not always in high demand.

“I feel a lot of Affection for Frank [Williams] and Patrick. I owe them a lot, but sometimes …” – so it is formulated in Hill in the ‘Autosport’Podcast.

Specifically, the Head’s behaviour towards him sometimes coarse, to him “every now and again a kickoff missed”, as Hill calls it. “Patrick thought, he motivated me. It has motivated me actually, but it’s rather in a negative way.”

Thus, in the case of this one incident at the race track. “Because he was frustrated with something and gave me a dressing down – after ten minutes in the first training session is on a Friday,” says Hill. Then also for him the collar had burst.

How is this expressed? So: “I took off the steering Wheel, squeezed it in his Hand and said: ‘go yourself!'” The Head was then made a hostage out of the dust, but the thing is, suffice it to say can.

And in retrospect, a rating of Hill those scenes a little differently than in the past to its active time. “We like us and just want to get the Best out of the others. Once in a while but it breaks out of you,” he explains. “This can be but also quite entertaining.”

In that Moment, he realized what he had done. “I was ashamed,” says Hill. “The Team had been waiting for his driver, and had previously said to the press that he feels not at all appreciated.”

And the relationship between Williams and Hill remained changeable: Although Hill in 1996 won the driver’s title for the British team with tradition, received in 1997, but no new contracts more and switched to Arrows. According to a further Station at Jordan and finished the Hill at the end of 1999, his active formula 1 career. He is now a TV expert at the Grands Prix in the process.
