According to multiple reports , the Houston Rockets have acquired veteran guard Dennis Schroder from the Boston Celtics in a trade, while acquiring Daniel Theis.
Boston gets:
Daniel Theis
Houston gets:
Dennis Schroder
Enes Freedom
Bruno Fernando
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski the Rockets will waive veteran center Freedom and may look into a buyout of Fernando.
Schroder is enjoying a strong season. He averages 14.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. He also shoots 44% overall and 34.9% from 3-pointers. He was primarily a backup guard for the Celtics, and will likely play a similar role in Houston where the focus is on Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green.
Theis is back in Boston where he spent his first three and a half seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. In the offseason, he signed with Houston and has been averaging 8.4 points per game and 5.0 rpg while in a starting role for the Rockets. He will be a reliable backup to a Celtics’ team that already includes Robert Williams III, Al Horford and Al Horford.
Freedom is a skilled low-post scorer, but he struggled to get minutes this year (11.7 mpg). He is also averaging career lows (3.7% ppg, 4.6 RPG). Fernando was a reserve player for Boston, with a 1.0 ppg and 0.8 rpg.
