The speculation surrounding the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ scenario reached a critical point on Tuesday following the reigning NFL MVP allegedly failed to attend a group meeting to kick off this week’s mandatory minicamp, a move that officially makes him a”holdout.”
News of Rodgers’ presumed absence was first reported Monday evening by ESPN, just 1 day before the three-day camp was set to start.
But on Tuesday afternoon, the NFL Network noted that Rodgers jumped out on the very first team meeting and will most likely not show for the remainder of minicamp this week, which could result in a $93,085 good for missing all 3 times.
“Aaron Rodgers was not present at the start of the 8:30 a.m. group assembly to kick off #Packers minicamp, I’m told. As anticipated, the NFL MVP has become formally a holdout,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported.
Head coach Matt LaFleur said last week without certainty that he was hopeful Rodgers would show.
“It’s important that we have our men and we’d like him to be here and hopefully we will find him Tuesday,” he stated, through PackersNews.com.
LaFleur’s announcement followed reports that the Packers company didn’t believe Rodgers was truly committed not to playing for them .
Rodgers has already forfeited a $500,000 work bonus following missing voluntary OTAs and the Packers may seek repayment for millions of dollars of bonus cash but sources told the NFL Network that the group is not seeking to go down this route and is instead actively trying to work something out.
For the time being, the Packers will have an opportunity to see backup quarterback Jordan Love in action with a number of their most veteran gamers.
