Alexander Zverev had to leave the center court of Roland Garros during the semifinal against Rafa Nadal after twisting his ankle at the point that led to the second set tie-break.
The German barely returned a strong right hand from the Spaniard and in the effort his ankle bent. Immediately, the world number three threw himself to the ground and writhed between cries of pain.
While Zverev was being treated on the ground, Nadal also came over to inquire about his condition and show his support. The tears of the German tennis player anticipated what was to come. Zverev was taken off center court on a stretcher, while the Spaniard sat in his chair waiting for the final decision of his rival’s team.
Shortly after, Zverev retired definitively allowing Nadal to pass to the final. It will be the fourteenth for him in Paris.
