In the Saints’ 13-10 win in Seattle, Demario Davis, Saints linebacker, had a game-high of 10 tackles and 2 sacks. Alvin Kamara ran back for 179 yards, with a total of 30 touches.
Davis stated that the defense takes a lot pride in its performance. “We have to be able play complementary football. Our group has a high standard and we wouldn’t accept any other.
“Defense was on field with the game at stake. In those situations, we get excited and have a lot of energy.
Jameis Winston, Saints quarterback, overcame the wet field and slippery footballs to complete 19 out of 35 passes for 222 yards with a touchdown.
Winston stated, “It wasn’t that bad.” It was a great match. They played great football, and we played some excellent football so it was definitely a difficult game.
To start the game, the Saints and Seahawks punted. Smith started in place injured star quarterback Russell Wilson and threw an 84 yard touchdown pass to D.K. Five minutes into the first quarter, Metcalf gave the Seahawks an unassisted 7-0 lead.
With a Brian Johnson field goal, the Saints were able to reduce their deficit just four minutes before halftime. Three minutes later, Winston connected with Kamara to score a 13 yard touchdown. This gave the Saints a lead of 10-7 at halftime.
Through the third quarter, both the Saints and Seahawks maintained their poor offensive performance. Jason Myers, the Seahawks’ kicker, made a 50 yard field goal with 14 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at 10-10
With a final drive of 13 plays and 42 yards in the fourth quarter, the Saints won their last advantage. Johnson completed the possession with a 33 yard field goal.
Smith threw two incomplete passes and was sacked twice by the Seahawks on their final drive. To win Week 7, the Saints ran out the last 1:04 of the clock.
Smith completed 12 out of 22 passes, gaining 167 yards and scoring a touchdown. Metcalf caught two passes for 96 yards. Alex Collins, the Seahawks running back, ran for 35 yards in 16 carries.
For the Saints’ five sacks, Cameron Jordan, Tanoh Kapassagnon, and safety Malcolm Jenkins combined with Davis were defensive ends.
Smith said to reporters, “It’s hard, we lost.” It’s not something that anyone is happy about. We are in another close game. We had a chance at the end. It’s hard.
“One thing that I know about these guys, is that they won’t quit. Nobody is going to point fingers. All of us will pick up what is needed. We’re all going get better. “Find ways to improve and win, you know.”
At 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, the Saints (4-2) will host the Buccaneers (6-1), at Caesars Superdome New Orleans. At Lumen Field, the Seahawks (2-5), host the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5).
