Kasper Hjulmand, Denmark coach, discovered this on Saturday when his mind drifted from the match while his team was playing in quarterfinals of the European Championship.
After the 2-1 win over the Czech Republic, Hjulmand spoke through a translator: “I thought about his during the match and after the game.” “I think how incredible it would be to watch him play (in) the next match.” He’s still an integral part of the team, and he’s a major part of our journey to Wembley.
Eriksen was able to survive a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s first Euro 2020 match three week ago. The team has been motivated by the outpouring of emotion that followed — all the way through the semifinals at Wembley Stadium.
Next, the Danes will play England in London on Wednesday.
Through an interpreter, Thomas Delaney, Denmark’s midfielder, said that he was “always been a very significant part of the team” We hold him in our hearts. He should have been there. We still struggle with it, but I find joy in making him proud.
Eriksen fell face-first onto the field during the match against Finland, June 12. As medical personnel revived Eriksen with a defibrillator, his teammates formed a protective wall around him. He was admitted to the hospital for a week before being discharged.
Eriksen is familiar with the stadium where the team will play their next match. For part of Eriksen’s seven-year tenure at the London club, Tottenham also used this stadium as their temporary home.
In October, Eriksen scored Denmark’s only goal at Wembley with a 1-0 win over England in Nations League.
Hjulmand stated that the team was not built overnight. He has been part of the team for a long time. He is a huge part of our success. I think of him often and wish he was here.
Denmark lost to Finland in their opening match at Euro 2020. The Danes then lost against Belgium. Despite losing to Finland in the opening match at Euro 2020, the Danes managed to progress by beating Russia in their last group match. This was helped by the fact Belgium won all three matches.
Eriksen, now playing for Inter Milan, was discharged from the hospital just before the match against Russia. He visited his teammates as soon he got out.
