“We went off in February in Cartagena in Spain, and after 34 days in Barbados,” says Skipper Ufuk Türkes in the Video, that Silent Yachts has just released. We learned about it in 2018, the Cannes Yachting Festival, as we were for the first Time on Board a Silent. Türkes told us at the time of his Atlantic crossing.
A crossing of the Atlantic ocean is actually nothing particularly more, when you consider how many boats a year across the ocean drive. But this ocean crossing was an absolute novelty: The Silent 64 was the first mass-produced solar yacht in the world which crossed the Atlantic – mainly to solar powered energy.

Almost silently, they drove day and night, only the waves and the Wind in the ears. They were four of us, the owners with family and Ufuk as a Skipper, chef and fisherman. If the sun was shining, they had to be sufficient energy to also at night without the Generator at the reduced speed. The on-Board power was enough sunlight for the washing machine, the stove, the microwave and other small appliances on Board.
“With every Silent of the Atlantic, you can cross”
But the weather is in February on the Atlantic, but also gruff. At 30 to 40 knots of Wind, the cat worked on some days by 8 to 10 metre high waves. “This is the most difficult of conditions, but it all went very well, we had no problems on the road,” said the Skipper. On such days, you had to use the Generator at night and drove the three-hour operation.

Overall, the Silent-catamaran, used for the 2,100 nautical miles from Spain to Barbados, 1,300 l of Diesel. Most of the time, the Crew aboard the Silent 64, however, was self-sufficient on the road. “Each Silent Yacht is certified to CE category A, and can cross the Atlantic”, says Michael Köhler, CEO of Silent Yachts. For many who are interested in a Silent is an essential aspect.“ Nearly 5,500 nautical miles, the Crew on this trip between Cartagena and your aim of Florida.
