Trusty, the U.S. International Center Back, was sold by the Colorado Rapids in England to Arsenal at the transfer deadline. He’ll be returned to Colorado until July when he will make his move abroad ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season. The New England Revolution and Trusty may be the only Americans to make the move to Emirates this summer. They are reportedly in agreement over a deal for goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Trusty, 23 years old, began his MLS career at the Philadelphia Union in a tandem with Mark McKenzie (U.S. international). Trusty enjoyed a strong 2021 MLS Season with the Rapids. He started 33 matches and helped the club finish the regular season in the Western Conference. Although he has not been capped at international level yet, he was on the bench for three U.S. friendly games, including a 1-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Padraig Smith, Rapids general manager, stated that Austin is coming off an outstanding season in 2021. In which he played a crucial role in helping us finish at the top of the Western Conference for first time in our history. We are committed to bringing in the best young players from Colorado and the United States, and to giving them a platform to thrive, achieve success within MLS and make the move to Europe.
“Auston’s exceptional performances have caught the attention of many European clubs over the last 12 months. We are privileged to be a part of an organization like [Kroenke Sports & Entertainment] which allows us to support a player like Auston’s development and career aspirations here in Europe.”

Trusty is the third Rapids player who has moved abroad since the close of the MLS season. Sam Vines secured a transfer to Antwerp, Belgium while Cole Bassett took a 18-month loan to Feyenoord, the Netherlands.

He is the second MLS defender who made a deadline-day move. George Bello secured a transfer from Arminia Bielefeld to the Bundesliga.
