The six-time Olympic luge champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt have won the overall doubles World Cup. The two Bavarians prevailed in the season finale in Winterberg in a duel with world champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken.

For the 35-year-old Wendl and Artl, who was the same age, it was the fifth overall success of their careers. Wendl/Artl celebrated their fifth victory in the twelfth and last race of the season – it was the fourth doubles success in a row. In the end, Bayern were 59 points ahead of their teammates from Thuringia. The ten-time world champions had won the overall World Cup for the sixth time last year. 34-year-old Eggert and 33-year-old Benecken were 0.057 seconds behind their teammates.

“It’s an incredibly great feeling. It was a really great season. We can be proud of ourselves,” said Tobias Wendl, who last won the doubles classification with Artl in the 2015/16 season. “It’s great to have had such a stable season,” said Artl.
