The ratings for the football World Cup remain low, but at least the important Germany game made it to Spain to jump over the ten million mark. As the first game of this World Cup ever. On average, 17 million people watched the second preliminary round game of the DFB team on ZDF on Sunday evening against Spain. TV interest in the games, including the first Germany game, has so far been modest. The game against Spain, on the other hand, just missed the best value for this year. The quota itself was 49.3 percent, so every second TV consumer watched the second World Cup game. This is a rather modest number, especially compared to previous tournaments. Four years ago in Russia, the market shares of the German preliminary round games were between 75 and almost 90 percent. The figures come from AGF video research.

In other parts of the world, however, the World Cup is more popular. A few days ago, the world association Fifa published media data from various countries, including Brazil, France and Great Britain. The ratings there were significantly higher than in Germany – for example in the opening game and compared to the start of the tournament in Russia. 5.05 million TV viewers watched the first game of this tournament on French broadcaster TF1. Four years ago it was only 3.83 million.
