England’s footballers have reached the final of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Ella Toone (36th minute), Lauren Hemp (71st) and Alessia Russo (86th) scored for the European champions in the 3-1 (1-0) semi-final over Australia on Wednesday. Australia’s superstar Sam Kerr scored a dream goal to make it 1-1 (63rd) in front of 75,784 spectators at Australia Stadium in Sydney. The final between England and Spain will also take place there on Sunday (12:00 p.m. CEST/ZDF).
The Australians will play the game for third place against Sweden on Saturday (10:00 a.m. CEST/ARD). It is England’s first World Cup final. Netherlands coach Sarina Wiegman’s team can replace the US team, which won the previous two World Cups. Spain has never contested a World Cup final either.
