DFB manager Joti Chatzialexiou sees the third round match of the German soccer team against South Korea at the World Cup in Australia primarily as a mental challenge.
“In the end, it will be a matter of the mind for the entire team. I’ve been through a lot of tournaments and I know which constellations are now coming together in my head,” said the head of the national teams at the DFB in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”.
The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has to worry about the round of 16 after the 1:2 defeat against Colombia in Sydney. “Now we have our backs to the wall. But we’re staying true to ourselves and we won’t leave any doubt that we’ll win the game against South Korea,” said Chatzialexiou before the end of the preliminary round on Thursday (12:00 p.m. CEST/ZDF) in Brisbane against the Asians.
“The South Koreans will also play for their honor. They certainly don’t want to go home with zero points,” said the 47-year-old, referring to the team of former Frankfurt Bundesliga coach Colin Bell.
