The record transfer from Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig to Champions League winners Manchester City is apparently perfect. The Saxons should receive around 90 million euros for the Croatian international.

The transfer of the 21-year-old central defender should also be officially announced in the coming days, reports “Bild”. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano writes that the medical check should take place on Friday.

Gvardiol would thus be the most expensive defender in the world. He replaces Harry Maguire, who joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for €87m. Gvardiol came to RB from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020 for 18 million euros.

The Bundesliga club did not want to confirm the transfer yet. However, Gvardiol was absent from the two friendlies scheduled for the afternoon against Belgian first division club VV St. Truiden and regional division club VSG Altglienicke, coached by Thorsten Fink, but followed the encounters from the stands.

Kampl regrets upcoming transfer

“We don’t need to beat about the bush. Everyone knows the reason,” said coach Marco Rose about the non-nomination and added. “I don’t think that another club will intervene with Manchester City, but I can’t report it yet,” said the RB coach.

Gvardiol’s previous teammate Kevin Kampl regrets the upcoming transfer. “Josko is already one of the best defenders in the world and he’s going to get even better. It’s remarkable how he copes with the hype about himself. He’s been absolutely great in training and in the dressing room, you can’t tell,” says the RB veteran. In the past few years, numerous quality players have been given away, but new, very good players have also been added again and again. “We’ve always pulled ourselves together as a team. That’s how it will be this time, too,” said Kampl.
