According to media information, Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club from Saudi Arabia is said to be planning another transfer coup and wants to sign Marco Reus.
As the English “Daily Mail” reported, Al-Nassr FC is allegedly considering signing the Dortmund captain, whose sporting future with the Bundesliga club is currently unclear. “It is quite normal for other clubs to be interested in a player like Marco, whose contract expires in six months,” said Reus consultant Dirk lever of “Bild am Sonntag”.
The BVB managers around sports director Sebastian Kehl had announced that they would meet at the beginning of the year to talk about further cooperation with the 33-year-old. The national player has been under contract with BVB since 2012, scored 156 goals in 368 competitive games and celebrated two cup wins (2017 and 2021).
Reus with BVB in the training camp
Due to an ankle injury, Reus, who was repeatedly plagued by injuries, had to cancel his participation in the World Cup in Qatar. He seems to be well on his way back into the squad and is preparing for the second half of the Bundesliga season with his team at the training camp in Marbella. “Marco has always emphasized how much BVB is important to him, but also that he wants to keep playing football. So it’s quite normal that we have to look at other options,” commented Hebe.
Al-Nassr made headlines last week when he signed Ronaldo. With Luka Modric (Real Madrid) and Sergio Ramos (Paris Saint-Germain), other prominent names are circulating around the club.
So far, the contract extension for Reus, who was born in Dortmund, has not really been in question. In a recent “Bild” interview, he referred to his special relationship with Borussia: “BVB is my club, Dortmund is my hometown and I would like to end my career here.”
Reus is considered one of the top earners in the BVB squad. The continuation of the cooperation would possibly result in a loss of salary. In the future, contracts should be based more on success than on deployment times.
