Bayer Leverkusen wants to compensate for injury concerns with another top-class winger and, after a failed start to the season, want to attack again in the Bundesliga.

English international Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea will join the Rhinelanders on loan until the end of the season and is scheduled to train with his new team for the first time this Wednesday. Bayer announced this on Tuesday after the 21-year-old passed his medical check-up.

There should not be a purchase option for the Leverkusen team. The English want the player, who still has a contract with Chelsea until June 30, 2024, back at the end of the season. “With Callum Hudson-Odoi we have signed a fast and assertive winger. He has everything to help us immediately,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes.

Hudson-Odoi is expected to liven up the vacant position on the wing due to injury problems and provide pace on the flanks alongside Moussa Diaby. “The move to Germany is really exciting for me, and I can still play in the Champions League with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. I’m curious about the club, the fans and the Bundesliga. Kai Havertz has me in the Chelsea dressing room only good things about Bayer,” said the newcomer.

The native of London was not recently used at Chelsea under coach Thomas Tuchel. The 21-year-old has yet to play a game this season. After the injuries to Karim Bellarabi (torn meniscus) and Amine Adli (broken collarbone), Leverkusen needed action on the offensive.
