Tennis professional Alexander Zverev was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy.
The Olympic champion lost his third round game against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6:7 (2:7), 4:6 and thus missed important points in the fight for participation in the ATP Finals in Turin in mid-November. For Zverev it was already the 13th defeat in the 15th match against a top ten player this year.
A few hours later, Daniel Altmaier was also thrown out: he lost to Dane Holger Rune, trained by tennis icon Boris Becker, 3:6, 3:6 and also missed the quarter-finals.
Not a good start
A day after his 3.5-hour match against Frenchman Ugo Humbert, Zverev didn’t get off to a good start. He gave up his first serve game. With a break to make it 4:5, the German saved himself into the tiebreak, which Tsitsipas clearly determined. In the second set, too, the world number six from Greece, who had his right leg treated by his physiotherapist in the first round, often made the better decisions.
The 25-year-old Altmaier from Kempen did not benefit from the additional break in the second round, when he benefited from an injury-related withdrawal from the American Taylor Fritz, against Rune. In 1:20 hours he lost easily in two sets. In the first set, Rune got the first break to make it 4:3, in the second set the Dane took the decisive step towards victory with the break to make it 5:3.
