Iga Swiatek has won the tennis tournament in Stuttgart for the second time in a row. As in the previous year, the Polish world number one prevailed in the final against Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus and celebrated a largely unchallenged 6:3, 6:4 victory.
The 21-year-old Swiatek converted her first match point after 1:50 hours. In 2022 she had even less trouble beating Sabalenka in the final with 6: 2, 6: 2. The 24-year-old Australian Open winner lost her third final in a row in Stuttgart.
Swiatek presented himself strongly on his own serve and did not allow the second in the world rankings to break the ball in the first round. To make it 5:3, she took the service from Sabalenka and secured the sentence a little later. Swiatek made the break again in the first game of the second half, survived a critical moment when the score was 2-1 and secured the title with a backhand.
Germans out early
Both players had been able to save energy in the semifinals of the clay court event. Sabalenka clearly prevailed against the Russian Anastasija Potapova 6:1, 6:2. Swiatek was only on the pitch for 18 minutes before her opponent Ons Jabeur from Tunisia retired due to injury.
The German players were eliminated early from the WTA tournament, which was endowed with around 715,000 euros. Tatjana Maria was the last to lose to Caroline Garcia from France in the round of 16.
