Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka underpinned her ambitions for the French Open with her tournament victory in Madrid.

In the final, the world number two from Belarus defeated the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 and thus also got revenge for the final defeat in Stuttgart almost two weeks ago.

Sabalenka celebrated her third WTA title this year. She also won the clay court tournament in the 1000 category in Madrid in 2021. For both Sabalenka and rival Swiatek, the next highlight is already at the end of the month. Both are considered favorites at the French Open, which begins on May 22nd in Paris.
