After reaching the semi-finals at the French Open, Alexander Zverev is hot for the grass classic in Wimbledon. After his serious foot injury, the 26-year-old now sees himself ready for great things again.
“To be honest, the knot burst in Paris,” said Zverev in an interview with “Sports Illustrated”. “After my injury I always said I needed that one result and I got it with my semi-final at Roland Garros.”
Zverev has big goals
In the rest of the season, Zverev now has no more points to defend for the tennis world rankings because he was unable to play tournaments in the second half of 2022 due to his injury. The way up is clear for the native of Hamburg. Zverev, who was number two in the world before his injury, still has big ambitions. “I want to win Grand Slam tournaments and become number 1 in the world. Those are my big goals,” said Zverev.
“Last year I was close. I should have only won one match in the following three months after Paris, regardless of the tournament. That wasn’t easy for me to accept,” said Zverev.
In Wimbledon, the Olympic champion will face Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer in the first round. The game takes place on Tuesday.
