In the playoff game of the Billie Jean King Cup, Jule Niemeier again has to adjust to another opponent at short notice.
Instead of playing Croatian number one Petra Martic, Germany’s top player is playing against Ana Konjuh today (2 p.m. / Tennis Channel). This was announced by the hosts two hours before the game in Rijeka.
Niemeier’s opponent had already changed at short notice on Friday. Instead of the injured Donna Vekic, the 23-year-old from Dortmund had to play against the only 16-year-old Petra Marcinko and lost clearly 3:6, 2:6.
Since Eva Lys had previously won surprisingly clearly in two sets against Martic, it is 1-1 after the first day. Lys meets Marcinko in her second singles for Germany on Saturday. Should it then be 2:2, the decision on remaining in the world group would be made in the final doubles.
