Snowboard crosser Martin Nörl won the silver medal at the World Championships in Georgia. The 29-year-old finished behind Austrian Jakob Dusek in a dramatic finale in Bakuriani.

The Austrian threw himself over the finish line and snatched gold from the Landshut native in a neck-and-neck race. Previously, there had been contact between Nörl and Olympic champion Alessandro Hämmerle on the track, which caused the Austrian to drop back to fourth place. Italy’s Omar Visintin secured bronze. The decision was a few minutes away as the jury was still reviewing the video images.

Nörl as title favourite

Nörl, the overall World Cup leader and best snowboard crosser of the past winter, was one of the favourites. His teammates Paul Berg, Leon Beckhaus and Leon Ulbricht did not make it past the quarter-finals.

In the women’s category, the only German starter, Jana Fischer from SC Löffingen, took sixth place. Czech Eva Adamczykova won gold for the second time after 2019.

The finals were originally supposed to take place next Friday, but were brought forward to the end of the week due to the bad weather forecast.
