Ryan Gravenberch is still waiting for Bayern to make his first start in the Bundesliga. Not happy about this fact.
In recent weeks it has become increasingly clear that Ryan Gravenberch is only fourth in the pecking order in Munich’s midfield – Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer are currently ahead under Julian Nagelsmann.
The Bayern coach has already admitted that Gravenberch is one of the players who have received less playing time than they actually deserve. In fact, the Dutchman has only been substituted on five times in the Bundesliga, where he has a meager 106 minutes of play. In the Champions League there are only ten. Gravenberch was only in the starting XI in the DFB Cup and immediately knew how to convince.
The 20-year-old now admitted to ESPN that he was disappointed with his start at Bayern. “To be honest, yes, I am. You want to play, but the coach chooses other players. I have to accept that, but it’s difficult,” Gravenberch admitted frankly. “I was hoping for more minutes but I have to stay calm.”
“Maybe the coach will give me more minutes after the international break,” Gravenberch hoped for improvement in the coming weeks. He needs that too – because without appearances at FC Bayern, participation in the 2022 World Cup will be tight.
Bonds coach Louis van Gaal did not consider him for the current international break. “Of course I was disappointed that I wasn’t nominated for the national team. That’s a shame,” said Gravenberch, who received no explanation from the former Bayern coach for his non-nomination. The reasons are obvious: the 20-year-old plays too little in the club.
“I would like to go to the World Cup. We’ll see what happens,” Gravenberch announced. “I haven’t given up yet.”
A tricky situation for the youngster who missed the last international break last summer with an ankle injury.
