The German ice hockey professional JJ Peterka won the duel against his compatriot Moritz Seider in the NHL.
With the Buffalo Sabers, Peterka won 6-3 (1-0, 4-0, 1-3) against the Detroit Red Wings. The 20-year-old defenseman scored two points for the first time this season in a game in the North American ice hockey league.
Peterka was involved in the 1:0 and 3:0 with a goal assist. Thanks to Kyle Okposo, the Sabers were 5-0 up after the second period, and Okposo’s third goal also made it 6-3. The Sabers clinched their fifth straight win. The team from the US state of New York was unable to train for a week due to the winter storm. Buffalo’s previous two games had been canceled.
Tim Stützle scored his twelfth goal of the season in the Ottawa Senators’ 4-3 (0-0, 2-3, 1-0) win after overtime against the Washington Capitals. The 20-year-old reduced the deficit to 3-2 just before the end of the first period after the Senators conceded three goals in the first 16 minutes. Alex DeBrincat became the match winner: the striker scored four and a half minutes before the end of the third period to equalize 3:3 and scored the winning goal after one and a half minutes in overtime.
Nico Sturm, on the other hand, suffered a loss after overtime with the San Jose Sharks: The Sharks lost 3:4 (1:1, 1:0, 1:2) at home to the Philadelphia Flyers. The hosts were 3-1 up at the beginning of the third period, but that wasn’t enough to win. In his 14 minutes on the ice, Sturm remained without a goal.
