Former national soccer player Philipp Lahm rates national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s debut positively. “We once again saw a team that played football with passion,” said the tournament director of the 2024 home European Championships about the 3-1 away win against the USA. “We saw how quickly enthusiasm can spill over.”
In order to do this sustainably, the performance has to be right, Lahm continued. “If you win, that’s even better. But first and foremost, every citizen has to see themselves in the team. Now a core, a face, has to emerge in order to play a successful European Championship.”
Lahm is the director of the 2024 European Championship, for which the first nations alongside the hosts have already qualified. “We are very satisfied with the ticket demand,” said the 39-year-old. “I believe that the demand will be even greater after the draw. Then you know who is playing where. But we are happy about everyone who comes to us. The demand is already very high – especially for the opening game, because that’s where Germany plays.” The tournament begins on June 14th next year in Munich.
