The German tennis pro Alexander Zverev first meets Nikolos Bassilashvili (31) from Georgia or the Argentinian Pedro Cachin (27) at the Masters tournament in Indian Wells, California. That was the draw.
With the semi-finals in Dubai, Zverev, who has recovered from his serious foot injury, recently showed improving form.
While the 25-year-old from Hamburg, like all seeded players, received a bye in the first round, Oscar Otte (29) must first face Laslo Djere from Serbia. In round two, the Cologne native would meet Karen Chatschanow (26) from Russia, who lost to Zverev in the 2021 Olympic final in Tokyo.
For women, the tournament for Wimbledon quarter-finalist Jule Niemeier (23) begins with a match against the Czech Katerina Siniakova. Tatjana Korpatsch (27) was drawn against the American Danielle Collins as an opponent, Tatjana Maria (35) starts against the Italian Jasmine Paolini. Last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist is currently the best German in the world rankings in 70th place.
Five other German players have yet to survive another round of qualifying to reach the main draw. These are Jan-Lennard Struff, Maximilian Marterer, Laura Siegemund, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Eva Lys. The tournament in Indian Wells is one of the most important after the four Grand Slams. The first round will be played from Wednesday.
