Golf amateur Tiger Christensen wants to take home a coveted trophy at his British Open premiere in Hoylake.
“First of all, I want to gain as much experience as possible and learn a lot. Basically, it is also the goal to take the medal for the best amateur,” said Christensen of the German Press Agency before the major tournament at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Matti Schmid was the last German to win the so-called “Silver Medal” two years ago. But today’s golf superstars Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have also received the valuable award for best amateur.
The 19-year-old from Hamburg, who has the famous namesake, will be auditioning on the really big golf stage for the first time from Thursday. “I think every golfer has something in common with the Open. The history is like no other and simply appearing there as an amateur is a dream come true,” said Christensen before the traditional event, which is endowed with 16.5 million US dollars.
The son of well-known music producer and former Popstars judge Alex Christensen and former singer Nicci Christensen is a business student at the University of Arizona and only qualified for the last major tournament of the year at short notice. The teenager also left well-known names such as Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia behind.
