The German gymnasts celebrated a successful debut at the European Championships in Antalya on Tuesday.

The squad around the veteran Andreas Toba was in first place in the team competition after the first of three rounds. With 244.529 points, Toba, Nils Dunkel and Nick Klessing as well as Lucas Kochan and Pascal Brendel finished 3.17 points more than when they finished seventh at the European Championships in Munich eight months ago.

Before the appearance of the favored teams of defending champion Great Britain, Italy and host Turkey, the team of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) also has the best chance of qualifying for the World Championships in Antwerp in autumn. At least rank 13 is required for this. The starting places for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be awarded at the world title fights in Belgium.

Pascal Brendel was the only one from the team of national coach Valeri Belenki to compete in a complete six-way battle consisting of pommel horse, wrestling, vault, parallel bars, high bar and floor. With 81.732 points, the newcomer to the European Championship can hope for participation in the all-around final on Thursday.
