Football fans in Germany can mark November 10th in their calendars: it was already known in advance that the Carolina Panthers would be coming to Germany. The Panthers have already secured the marketing rights for the German market in 2021. At the beginning of January, the NFL announced the Panthers as the home team for the game at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The opponent, however, is new: the New York Giants. The NFL announced the duel on Wednesday. On X, formerly Twitter, both clubs also posted videos from downtown Munich to get in the mood for the game.

Both teams have had a difficult season. With top talent Bryce Young, the Panthers finished the season as the worst team in the league with just two wins from 17 games. The Giants also missed out on making it into the playoffs with just six wins. Former German NFL professional Markus Kuhn, who worked as a defensive tackle for the Giants from 2012 to 2015, sees a duel between quarterbacks around the talented Young and Daniel Jones on the New York side. “Young didn’t have the best rookie season, so we’ll see how he improves. On the other hand, Jones is a quarterback who’s going to have a make-it-or-brake-it year. If he doesn’t perform, it’s probably his last season with the Giants,” Kuhn told RTL. “We look forward to the 2024 season and to playing in Europe again and continuing to expand our game worldwide,” said Brian Daboll, head coach of the New York Giants, in a statement from the NFL.

For the Panthers, it is only the second game on international soil after a game in London in 2019. The Giants, on the other hand, are playing their fourth international game. This will end a series: Neither the Panthers nor the Giants have lost internationally so far.

The match in Munich is the final game of the International Series this season. This time, the series will not kick off with the London Games as usual, but with the first NFL duel on Brazilian soil. The Green Bay Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo on September 6th. The NFL will then travel to London, where three games will be played. The New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings will kick off on October 6th. The following week, the Jacksonville Jaguars will face the Chicago Bears, before the New England Patriots and the Jaguars will end the London Games on October 20th.
