After a fine and a warning from FIFA for the DFB, Hansi Flick will not appear alone at the obligatory press conference ahead of the World Cup group match against Costa Rica.
As the world association announced, defender Lukas Klostermann will be sitting on the podium in the international press center in Doha at 1.30 p.m. German time alongside the national coach on Wednesday. The DFB confirmed the Pk occupation.
A few hours earlier, the German Football Association had been fined 10,000 Swiss francs (about 10,100 euros) for breaking the rules at the press conference before the World Cup match against Spain (1-1). In addition, the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA issued a warning against the German association. The regulations stipulate that each team must hold a press conference with the head coach and a player at the main press center in Doha the day before each game.
Flick justified his solo appearance by saying that none of his 26 players could “be expected” to make the long journey from the DFB team headquarters in northern Qatar to the capital, a good 100 kilometers away, one day before the game.
Germany will play Costa Rica in Al-Khour on Thursday (8 p.m. / ARD and MagentaTV). Qualification for the World Cup round of 16 is only possible with a win. The final training session will take place on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. German time in the German training stadium in Al-Shamal, not far from the team hotel.
