The official match ball for the home European Championship 2024 in Germany is called “Football Love”. The sporting goods manufacturer Adidas announced this on Wednesday at the Maifeld in Berlin near the Olympic Stadium, where the European Championship final will be played. Among other things, the tournament venues are immortalized on the ball.
According to the manufacturer, the ball has a chip that sends data to the referee team. In combination with player position data and artificial intelligence, the chip is intended to help video referees make decisions faster and more precisely using semi-automatic offside detection.
The groups will be drawn at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on December 2nd this year. The European Championship begins on June 14, 2024 with the German team’s opening game against an as yet unknown opponent in Munich. The final will be played on July 14th in Berlin.
