Bayer 04 Leverkusen have taken an impressive step out of the crisis. The Werkself beat Union Berlin 5-0 (!) in front of their home crowd on Sunday.
With just nine goals conceded, Union Berlin still had the best defense in the league at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. 45 minutes later things looked very different; the Irons let Bayer Leverkusen concede five goals in the second half.
After Leverkusen and Union were still 0-0 at half-time, the Werkself turned up the heat after the break. Robert Andrich struck moments after the restart, which Moussa Diaby followed up with a brace. Adam Hlozek and Mitchell Bakker boosted the result even further. The Werkself are finally on cloud nine again for the moment. The reality still looks modest with 14th place after 13 matchdays, but such a win against a top team can definitely act as the famous knocked over buck.
