Harry Kane also cuts a good figure in leather trousers. After his first hat-trick in the Bundesliga, the 100 million euro striker was looking forward to his first visit to the Oktoberfest as a Bayern professional.
“I’m proud, it’s a special day. My first hat-trick for FC Bayern and in front of our fans too – we have to keep it up,” said the 30-year-old after the Munich baller show in the 7-0 win against VfL Bochum.
“Very relaxed” Kane was able to look forward to lunchtime in the celebrity tent on Sunday after setting a club record. “I want to soak up as much of the festival as possible,” announced the Englishman. The next 7-0 against overwhelmed Bochum was the perfect prelude to cozy hours with teammates and families at the Oktoberfest.
Tuchel: “Close your eyes and go through”
“With the last results and the game today, it will of course be a nice visit. Tasty food is always good, and traditional food is very welcome,” said coach Thomas Tuchel, anything but a beer fan. “I’ll find something, they’ll put something in my beer mug,” joked the 50-year-old ascetic. On ZDF he announced his personal Oktoberfest motto: “The lederhosen are ready, we strap them on – and then close our eyes and go through.”
Kane was celebrated with the match ball as a souvenir on the lap of honor by the fans in the Allianz Arena. They celebrated further goals from their “Super Bayern” by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Matthijs de Ligt, Leroy Sané and again top joker Mathys Tel. The beer tent hits “Sweet Caroline” and “Cordula Grün” were already ringing through to celebrate the day Stadion. “We always had a lot of momentum and were excited to play in all positions. We really played a great game,” said Thomas Müller, who was again only a substitute.
A year ago, the people of Munich toasted the then coach and new national coach Julian Nagelsmann as well as the former bosses Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic in a bad mood in the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke after a 0-1 defeat at FC Augsburg. Now the beer mug could possibly even be a toast to the league lead after the match day.
As the frontrunner in the marquee
“The table takes care of itself. We have to take care of the process, how we play and how we bring it to life – and that was very good,” said Tuchel. “We made it look easy. That was because we were really diligent and attentive to the little things.”
At least the series champions came to the festival as the frontrunners because Bayer Leverkusen only had to play against 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday afternoon. Regardless, the new sports director Christoph Freund spoke of a “perfect Oktoberfest weekend”. A visit to the beer tent is “important for the camaraderie, for the team structure.” Can top scorer Kane also do Oktoberfest? “Let’s see. This is definitely a new experience for him,” remarked Freund.
“It’s a great tradition,” Kane said. When trying on the costume, the ex-Londoner was particularly surprised by the haferl shoes. “The shoes are really tight, I’ve never worn anything like that before. I still have to get used to them.”
With a three-pack, he sets a club record
In football boots, the 30-year-old can score almost at will. A year after the failed experiment without a well-known number 9 in the center of attack, FC Bayern again has a great striker, a real successor to former world footballer Robert Lewandowski. “He scores, he has assists and plays without frills. He shows personality – and he also takes responsibility. Job done,” said Tuchel about Kane. The coach was successful with his surprising changes – Choupo-Moting and de Ligt were in the starting line-up, among others. President Herbert Hainer gave it “an A”.
Kane already has seven goals to his name after five games. The Bundesliga record purchase improved a club record. After their first five games, Gerd Müller, Miroslav Klose and Mario Mandzukic were the best with five goals. But Kane didn’t want to enjoy the Oktoberfest too much. Rather, the new leader warned with a view to the upcoming cup task at third division club Preußen Münster. That was also entirely in Tuchel’s spirit: “We won’t overdo it. We won’t stay long. We have an away game in the cup on Tuesday.”
