The FC Bayern Munich basketball players have suffered their next away defeat: On Friday, the Bundesliga basketball team lost 73:74 (43:41) in the EuroLeague game at Zalgiris Kaunas and has therefore lost its last five away games across all competitions. Nine seconds before the end, Bayern conceded the game-winning basket. In the European Cup, coach Pablo Laso’s team suffered their sixth defeat in their ninth game of the season.
As in the previous two EuroLeague encounters, Munich’s Leandro Bolmaro had difficulty building up the game, Kaunas took advantage of Bayern’s mistakes and also scored at a high percentage from outside. The guests were behind 18:25 after the first quarter. During the second half, Bayern seemed more stable thanks to their bench players, they turned the game around with a 13-1 run and went into the locker room with a 43-41 lead.
The Munich team carried the momentum into the second half and opened up a difference of up to nine points. But Kaunas found its rhythm again at the end of the third round and took the lead back with 62:61.
In the final period, Bayern remained without points for six minutes before Serge Ibaka (20 points) gave the visitors a 73:72 lead with a three-pointer 29 seconds before the end of the game. But in return, Kaunas’ Keenan Evans scored two points, and in the last attack Bolmaro missed the throw to win.
