Erik ten Hag finds it clear: The Manchester United manager admits his team is “not that good”. He also warns his players that they need to show intensity in every game.

After a disastrous start to his tenure at Old Trafford, ten Hag looked to have turned the tide with United. He won four Premier League games in a row – including against leaders Arsenal.

But last weekend United fell 4-0 down (final score 6-3) against Manchester City at half-time and also had a hard time against Omonia in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

United meet Everton next weekend – a game which, depending on the result and other factors, could see the side return to the top four or drop out of the top half of the table.

“Only good is good enough for me,” Erik ten Hag warned his players before the important game. “We’re not nearly as good at the moment. You could see that [against Manchester City], we still have to do a lot better. I think the biggest problem is intensity – we’ve done a lot better in previous games.”

“We have to put the intensity on the pitch in every game. That was the big difference between City and us. That’s a requirement for our team [and] all our players. They have to take responsibility for it,” said the United coach plain text. He also knows that there is still a lot of work ahead of him.
