Brehme died of a heart attack on Tuesday night at the age of 63. He was a key figure in the German national team’s 1990 World Cup triumph in Italy, scoring the 1-0 winning goal from a penalty in the final against Argentina. As a club player, he won the German championship with FC Bayern in 1987, the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1991, the DFB Cup with 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1996 and the German championship with the Red Devils from Betzenberg in 1998. In the same year, the Hamburg native ended his active career.
