The Dutch police arrested ten people during fan riots around the qualifier for the Conference League between the Dutch first division soccer team Twente Enschede and Hammarby IF from Sweden. As the Dutch broadcaster NOS reported on Friday night, a Swedish fan fell from the stands of the stadium.
The viewer was taken to a hospital, said Twente’s director Paul van der Kraan, according to the report. Nothing was initially known about the severity of the injuries. Van der Kraan said tickets for the main stand, originally intended for sponsors, appear to have gone to Hammarby fans.
The hosts with the German goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall had won the first leg of the second qualifying round 1-0 (0-0). After the final whistle, supporters of the hosts were looking for a confrontation with fans from Sweden in the stands, it was said. Among the ten arrested was a minor who was released during the night. The situation calmed down around 1:00 a.m. The second leg will take place in Stockholm next Thursday.
