National player Timo Werner was injured and replaced by RB Leipzig in the Champions League game. The 26-year-old was fouled against Shakhtar Donetsk in the 14th minute and tried again after treatment despite problems with his left ankle.
In the 19th minute, however, the striker had to make room for Emil Forsberg and limped slightly into the dressing room. It was initially unclear whether Werner’s injury would affect participation in the World Cup. Germany has its first World Cup game on November 23 against Japan.
