FC Brugge and SSC Napoli are early in the round of 16 of the Champions League. In the Bayer Leverkusen group, a 0-0 draw at Atlético Madrid was enough for the Belgian soccer champions Bruges to make it into the top 16 for the first time in the club’s history.
Referee Danny Makkelie denied the leaders of Group B a penalty kick after checking the video images shortly before half-time on Wednesday evening. But the luckless Spaniards had the better chances, and even though they were outnumbered, they didn’t score. Brugge’s Kamal Sowah saw the yellow-red card (82′).
In Group A, Napoli won 4-2 (2-0) against Ajax Amsterdam at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. With their fourth win in four games, coach Luciano Spalletti’s team qualified early for the round of 16. Hirving Lozano (4th minute), Giacomo Raspadori (16th), Chwitscha Kwarazchelia (62nd / hand penalty) and Victor Osimhen (89th) scored for the hosts, for Ajax were the former Bremen player Davy Klassen (49th) and Steven Bergwijn (83./penalty) successful.
