Mark van Bommel once again missed his first win in the Champions League as a coach. The former Bayern professional lost 2:3 (2:0) against Shakhtar Donetsk with the Belgian soccer champions Royal Antwerp.
Atlético Madrid, on the other hand, achieved their first success on the second matchday and won 3:2 (2:2) against the Dutch champions Feyenoord Rotterdam.
Turned both games
Arbnor Muja (3rd minute) and Michel Balikwisha (33rd) ensured the hosts took a comfortable lead in Antwerp. But Danylo Sikan (48./76) with a brace and Jaroslaw Rakyzkyj (71.) turned the game in favor of the Ukrainians. In the final minute of added time, Antwerp’s Toby Alderweireld shot a penalty wide. It also got off to a disappointing start for Atlético. An own goal from Mario Hermoso (7th) and David Hancko (34th) gave Feyenoord the lead twice. But in the end, coach Diego Simeone’s team prevailed thanks to goals from Álvaro Morata (12th/47th) and Antoine Griezmann (45th 4).
