Unfortunately, it is the fitting end to a messed-up half-season for Anthony Modeste: the BVB striker had to undergo an operation after the last day of the game.

Borussia Dortmund announced that Modeste underwent groin surgery on Wednesday evening. The 35-year-old, who had shown disappointing performances in the black and yellow jersey for long stretches after his move in the summer, has therefore been suffering from problems in the groin area “for a few weeks”. These would have “hindered him in training and in the last games before the World Cup break”.

As a result of the operation, Modeste will miss the trip to Asia starting next week, including the planned friendlies in Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia. However, BVB did not name an exact downtime.

“I’ll be going straight to rehab soon so that I can be fit and full of energy on the pitch again in the new year,” Modeste announced that he wanted to be involved again in preparation for the second half of the season. From BVB’s point of view, it is to be hoped that the veteran will not only recover quickly, but will hopefully also show better performances. The return of Sebastien Haller remains in the stars after undergoing another operation.
