The Bundesliga is offering more excitement this season than it has in a long time. In contrast to previous years, the champion is not yet certain before the last matchday.

Borussia Dortmund has the best starting position as the leader of the table. They are also looking for the second relegation team after Hertha BSC and the relegation participant. There is also still a lot to be done in qualifying for the European Cup. This is how the decisions are made on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky):

championship

Borussia Dortmund is two points ahead of FC Bayern Munich in the last matchday. If Dortmund wins against FSV Mainz 05 at home, they will have the title with 73 points, regardless of Munich’s result. If Dortmund draws or loses, BVB will still win the title if Bayern also only draw or lose.

Champions League

RB Leipzig, third in the table, has already secured qualification. 1. FC Union Berlin and SC Freiburg, who have the same number of points, are fighting for the last place. Both have 59 points, Union has a goal difference that is four goals better. Berlin welcomes Werder Bremen, Freiburg has to compete at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Europa League und Conference League

The allocation of places in the lower class European Cup competitions is more complicated. Union and Freiburg have at least fifth place and thus participation in the Europa League. Bayer Leverkusen (50/in Bochum), VfL Wolfsburg (49/against Hertha BSC) and Eintracht Frankfurt (47/against Freiburg) still have chances of sixth place. The decision about the European Cup participants is still dependent on the cup final between Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt. One thing is certain: the bottom of the table will not qualify for the European Cup via the league.

relegation battle

Hertha BSC has been relegated. For the other clubs the situation is as follows:

FC Schalke 04 (17th/31 points/33:67 goals)

– saves himself with a win at RB Leipzig if VfL Bochum fails to beat Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart fails to win TSG Hoffenheim, or if either team fails to win and FC Augsburg have a 15-goal advantage in a defeat at Mönchengladbach better goal difference against Schalke

– makes it to the relegation if Bochum or Stuttgart don’t win or if Augsburg lose the advantage of a goal difference that is 15 goals better than Schalke

– makes it to the relegation if Bochum loses if there is a draw

Scenarios in which the goal difference, which is 23 goals worse than VfB Stuttgart, is made up for are not mentioned here.

VfL Bochum (16th/32/37:72)

– saves himself with a win against Leverkusen if Stuttgart doesn’t win or Augsburg loses or Augsburg draws and gambles away the goal difference, which is 16 goals better

– saves himself with a draw if Schalke doesn’t win and Stuttgart loses

– Must go into relegation with a win if Stuttgart wins and Augsburg scores at least one point and does not lose the goal difference, which is 16 goals better

– makes it to relegation with a draw if Schalke don’t win

VfB Stuttgart (15th/32/44:56)

– saves himself with a victory

– saves himself with a draw if Schalke and Bochum don’t win

– saves himself in a defeat if Schalke don’t win and Bochum loses

– Must go into relegation if Schalke wins and Bochum draws at most

– Must go into relegation if Schalke wins and Bochum loses or if Schalke does not win and Bochum scores at least one point

Scenarios in which the goal difference, which is 22 and 23 goals better than FC Schalke 04 and VfL Bochum, are lost are not mentioned here.

FC Augsburg (14./34/42:61)

– saves himself with a draw, if Stuttgart and Bochum don’t win and Bochum still catches up the goal difference, which is 16 goals worse

– saves himself with a defeat, if Stuttgart and Bochum don’t win or one of the two wins and Schalke make up for their goal difference, which is 15 goals worse, with a win

– must go into relegation with a draw if Stuttgart and Bochum win and Bochum still catch up on goal difference, which is 16 goals worse

– Must go into relegation if Stuttgart and Bochum win or one of the two wins and Schalke wins to make up for their goal difference, which is 15 goals worse

TSG Hoffenheim (13./35/47:56)

– If you lose in Stuttgart, you still have to go to relegation if Bochum and Augsburg win. VfB and VfL would have to make up for their worse goal difference of 26 goals (Bochum) and three goals (Stuttgart). Augsburg could also overtake Hoffenheim with a draw if the Kraichgauers lose by at least ten goals in Stuttgart
