FC Schalke 04 is still looking for a coach. Assistant coach Matthias Kreutzer also led training at the Bundesliga soccer team on Thursday.
The table penultimate had postponed the session to the afternoon, probably in the hope of having found a successor for Frank Kramer by then. The aim of the Revierclub is to have presented the new head coach by the next Bundesliga game on Sunday at Hertha BSC (5.30 p.m. / DAZN) at the latest.
Apparently, the search and the clarification of details are difficult. Thomas Reis, who has long been considered a top favourite, would first have to come out of his still valid contract with VfL Bochum. Reis had been on leave a month ago at the station neighbors. According to Sport1, Bruno Labbadia was also asked, but he is said to have canceled.
Schalke suffered a 5-1 defeat at TSG Hoffenheim in the DFB Cup on Tuesday and thus suffered their fifth competitive defeat in a row. The Revierclub then parted ways with Kramer on Wednesday.
His successor has to be prepared for some problems. On the one hand, the cash-strapped Revierclub still doesn’t have a lot of money available and on the other hand, the quality of the squad is manageable. So far, suitability for the Bundesliga has only been rudimentarily recognizable. In addition, there are some injury problems, especially on the defensive. Schalke announced on Thursday that Leo Greiml would also be out in the long term. The centre-back will undergo knee surgery on Friday for a meniscus injury.
