According to a report from the TV channel Sky, FC Bayern Munich is said to have held initial discussions with Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso about a possible move in the summer.

The German football record champions are looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, whose departure is certain at the end of the season. Under Alonso’s direction, Bayer leads the table ten game days before the end of the season with a ten point lead over Bayern.

The 42-year-old knows the club from his time as a player, but according to the report he has not yet decided whether to leave Leverkusen. In this case, Alonso prefers FC Bayern instead of Liverpool FC, who are also interested. Jürgen Klopp will be leaving the coaching position there at the end of the season.

Alonso’s contract in Leverkusen ends on June 30, 2026. According to information from Sky, FC Bayern would have to pay a transfer fee of 15 to 25 million euros if Alonso were to be signed after the current season. In one year, a written exit clause could come into effect, which should be around 15 million euros.
