With a very concise, brief analysis, coach Urs Fischer ticked Union Berlin’s first defeat of the year. The Swiss spoke of a “well-deserved victory” for FC Bayern Munich after the 3-0 (3-0) win against his team on Sunday evening in the top game of the Bundesliga.

“The analysis is easy. We just didn’t have a chance. Bayern were two or three classes better than us,” said the 57-year-old. Union captain Christopher Trimmel saw it the same way as his coach: “Bayern were two or three classes too strong for us.”

“Shifted down a gear in the second half”

“It was still possible to make it 1-0. What annoyed me a bit were goals two and three before the break. They weren’t necessary. Bayern then downshifted in the second half,” commented Fischer. Three days after the exhausting 3-2 win over Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League, his team failed to reach their performance limit. However, Trimmel did not accept a lack of strength as a reason: “Absolutely not.”

However, his team-mate Rani Khedira spoke very well of the fact that “the mental freshness” was missing so shortly after the international highlight. “The opponent kept pressing and stressing us,” said Fischer, who summed it up: “You can analyze this defeat well, we’ll pick out a lot of things that we’re still working on.”

Trimmel: “Playing and walking makes Bayern world class”

Trimmel also lacked a pinch of courage: “Of course we wanted to defend courageously.” But he also acknowledged the performance of the record champions. “Playing and walking makes Bayern world class, so for me they are the best team in the world.” After the 22nd matchday, Union is now three points behind the top duo Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

Fischer not only congratulated his Munich coach colleague Julian Nagelsmann on the victory. He also wished the 35-year-old the best of luck with Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. “I’ll definitely keep my fingers crossed for you,” said Fischer at the joint press conference with Nagelsmann in the Allianz Arena. Bayern go into the second round of 16 on March 8 with a 1-0 win in the first leg in Paris.
