FC Bayern Munich still has to do without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The 36-year-old captain is also missing on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in the Bundesliga against 1899 Hoffenheim and on Wednesday (9 p.m.) in the Champions League at FC Barcelona.
Trainer Julian Nagelsmann reported that Neuer “still had pain” in his shoulder. Offensive player Thomas Müller is also missing in the Kraichgau due to a gastrointestinal disease.
Neuer has to take a break three weeks before the World Cup nomination because of a bruised shoulder joint. That’s why he was represented by Sven Ulreich in the Champions League against Viktoria Pilsen (4:2), in the Bundesliga home game against SC Freiburg (5:0) and in the DFB Cup against FC Augsburg (5:2). “I don’t think the World Cup is in danger,” said Nagelsmann.
The Bayern coach admitted that Neuer’s appearance in the top Bundesliga game at the beginning of October against Borussia Dortmund (2-2) came “too soon afterwards”. Nagelsmann expects his captain to return to Mainz at the end of October.
