Sports director Max Eberl from RB Leipzig has referred to his contract with the cup winners in view of renewed speculation about a possible move to FC Bayern Munich.

“Sport Bild” reported that it was only a matter of time before the 50-year-old took on an important position at the German soccer record champions. A change to the transfer period at the beginning of next year is “quite possible,” it said before the top game of both clubs on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky).

Eberl wants to beat Bayern

“I’m under contract with RB Leipzig,” Eberl told Sport Bild. “But it’s not about me, it’s about the top game in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig against Bayern Munich. We have put together a really exciting squad, started the season well, and want to confirm our previous performances on Saturday against Bayern and them with us beat at home.”

Eberl only took up his position in Leipzig last December after resigning from Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2022, citing his own exhaustion. The 49-year-old has been considered a candidate for FC Bayern several times in the past. According to the club, he has a “long-term contract” in Leipzig.

In July, the Munich team hired Christoph Freund as sports director, effectively the successor to sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. Eberl began his active football career at FC Bayern.
