Christian Streich will continue to coach SC Freiburg in the coming season. As the Bundesliga club and Europa League participant announced, the 57-year-old has once again extended his contract in Freiburg.
This means that the native of southern Baden will start his 13th season with the currently very successful sports club in the summer. As usual, the club did not provide any information on the new term, but Streich usually extends his contract by one year at a time.
“The coaching team around Christian Streich works day after day with great attention to detail and with maximum commitment on the development of our team. We’re staying on our path,” said sporting director Jochen Saier. The assistant coaches Patrick Baier, Florian Bruns and Julian Schuster also extended their contracts with Streich, so that the coaching team stays together.
“Constellation here is special”
“It’s nice that we’re still happy to come to the coaching office,” explained Streich. “The constellation here is special and it’s a pleasure for me to be able to continue working at this club together with my coaching colleagues.”
Under Streich, Freiburg celebrated one of its most successful seasons last year. With sixth place, they entered the Europa League, where the Breisgauers expect Juventus Turin for the second leg in the round of 16 on Thursday (6.45 p.m. / RTL). In addition, the Badeners were in the final of the DFB Cup for the first time, in which they lost to RB Leipzig. They are currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga and in the quarter-finals of the cup.
