Borussia Dortmund’s boss Hans-Joachim Watzke calmly countered the statements made by Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder. The CSU politician had said about the fight for the German championship: “The Dortmunders are actually almost too stupid to become German champions.”

Last weekend, BVB had gambled away a victory they thought was certain at VfB Stuttgart (3:3) and missed out on drawing level with FC Bayern Munich in the table. Söder relies on the champion from Bavaria in the championship fight. “I am very optimistic that we will become German champions. Dortmund will help you.”

Now the BVB boss reacted. “The answer will come in five weeks at the latest…” Watzke told the “Bild” newspaper. NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst jumped to Watzke’s side with a wink. “Dortmund is just smart – Bayern feel safe, keep the Bundesliga exciting for the fans and then strike…” said the CDU politician.
