After parting ways with head coach Thomas Letsch, VfL Bochum is heading into the final stretch of the season with an internal solution. In the remaining six games, U19 coach Heiko Butscher will be in the dugout of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club, as the club announced.

The 43-year-old has once again acted as an interim solution in the past six years. Preferred candidate Peter Stöger (formerly Cologne and Dortmund) had previously turned down the Bochum candidate.

On Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky), VfL, who are only three points ahead of the relegation zone, awaits 1. FC Heidenheim. “Heiko immediately agreed to take on this challenge. He knows VfL, he knows the situation at VfL and has proven that he can immediately reach a team in terms of content and emotion,” said Managing Director Sport Patrick Fabian.
